雨伞树 (yǔ sǎn shù) The Umbrella Tree is a beautiful Chinese original story that tells a tale about panda siblings & their beloved red umbrella.
YaYa and GuaGua love their red umbrella—it protects them from wind, rain, and even sun. They love it so much, the even hang a little panda on one of its spokes. The red umbrella loves them too, so she doesn’t mind. One day a strong wind blows the red umbrella into a tree, tearing its paper and breaking one of its spokes. The pandas take the umbrella to their mom and ask if she can fix it. She tries, but it was beyond repair, so she put it in the trash & Mr. Black Bear, the trash man, took it to the dump far away. At the dump, many animals play with the old red umbrella until, one day, a fox who was using it as a flag planted it in the ground. As the tattered red umbrella sat in the rain, she thought of YaYa & GuaGua & how she missed them, but she knew she wouldn’t be useful to them in her current state & wished she could be a new umbrella. She fell asleep crying. When she woke, she had sprouted roots & grown branches and had become an umbrella tree! One day, YaYa & GuaGua see a donkey carrying a red umbrella that looks familiar. They ask where it is from and reunite with their long-lost red umbrella & rest in her shade.
