夏日的一天 (xià rì de yì tiān) One Day in Summer
In this classic story, beloved Japanese author Koshiro Hata and celebrated translator 彭懿 take us on a journey to experience the smell, the sound and the spirit of a hot summer day.
Through vibrant illustrations of a countryside landscape, we follow a rambunctious little boy who wants to catch a stag beetle. His big brother is not home today, so he must catch the beetle by himself! He runs towards the mountain, across the field, past the cow corral. He smells the grass, listens to the cicadas, and climbs the big trees. Finally, he catches a gigantic stag beetle! Who cares if he gets soaked in the rain. He’s found it, and look, it’s so cool. . .the beetle!
The story is written with short, yet action-filled sentences--a wonderful exposure to nouns, adjectives and verbs for an exciting summer day!
