Award-winning Japanese author Tadashi Akiyama captures young readers' attention with this light-hearted story about a chick that refuses to grow up: 鸡蛋哥哥 (jī dàn gē gē), Brother Egg.
Brother Egg doesn't want to come out of his shell. He wears his eggshell everywhere and is very careful not to bump into anything that might break it. Even though his younger brother is taller than him and his mom wants him to grow faster, he enjoys remaining in his egg because he gets to cuddle with his mom, play hide and seek with friends, and float in water.
One day, Mr. Crow sees him and exclaims: ”How come you are still an egg, little guy?! Let me break your shell for you!” Brother Egg flees and hides inside a pig’s nostril. The pig sneezes and shoots him into the air…Snap! Brother Egg bumps into a rock and gets a crack in his shell! He is terrified when he goes to bed that evening. In the morning, his shell is broken! How will he cope with his new shell-less self?
Children will love this funny, action-packed story told in simple, everyday language.
