Luka® can read this book!
This simple Montessori-friendly series 动物宝宝和妈妈 (dòng wù bǎo bǎo hé mā mā) features beautiful realist drawings and one to two lines of nonfiction text. It is a great beginner set for any Chinese learner, but especially an animal lover.
All books include some repetitive vocabulary and sentence structures which make them easier for new learners to memorize and eventually read. Five of the seven books use a question and answer interactive format which encourage the child to generate responses themselves. Larger than normal font presented on a white background also makes this set appropriate for younger learners.
These books would make perfect early readers for any child learning Chinese and interested in animals.
If your child is ready to recognize sight words, point your finger at each character as you or Luka reads the stories. You may be surprised by how quickly your child will recognize some of those seemingly complicated Chinese characters! Your child may recognize an entire book and get to experience their first proud "I can read a book" moment!
